THE LOVE STORY
HOW DID YOU MEET? We met online through a dating app.
WHAT ATTRACTED HER TO HIM? I was attached to his smile and the way he tried to always make me laugh. Our first phone conversation lasted about 4 hours and I knew then that we would always enjoy each others company and spending time with one another.
WHAT ATTRACTED HIM TO HER? The photo I saw on her profile was beautiful and I was interested in all the hobbies and passions she listed. We are total opposites in many many ways, but I think that helps to balance us out.
YOUR ENGAGEMENT STORY: Thomas was actually traveling for work and happened to be in Canada for a week filming and carried my engagement ring the entire time because he was paranoid about losing it or it getting stolen. Since he was traveling I had no idea that he had planned to come down to Texas to surprise me. I got home from work and he was waiting for me in the house with a huge vase of lilies. I thought he was going to propose then, but then he said he had reservations at a really nice restaurant, so we went to dinner and finished up. Still didn’t propose so I thought maybe he just surprised me because we hadn’t seen each other since August and it was now October. We got home and he grabbed my hand and started saying all these wonderful things to me. He was so nervous and words were just flying out of his mouth. He then asked me to marry him, but he was so nervous he forgot to get down on one knee and I was so excited I didn’t even notice until afterwards.
THE WEDDING
FAVORITE PART OF THE WEDDING: Our favorite part of the wedding was being able to spend the day with all our family and friends. We had a lot of family travel in for the wedding and being able to celebrate with them on the day was a once in a lifetime experience. Lots of tears and smiles for hours on end.
DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING GOWN: My wedding dress is a mixture of a mermaid and a-line style dress. It’s fitted through the bodice and about to the middle of my thigh and then it flares out with a gorgeous long lace train. The entire dress is lace with a higher neck line and wonderful windowed back. We added some lace sleeves to the dress as well.
MOST UNEXPECTED PART OF YOUR WEDDING DAY: The most unexpected part of the wedding day was the rain. It was beautiful sunshine the day before and the day after. We actually managed to have about 30 minutes of no rain right we when started taking photos so that worked out well for the wedding party and our families, but our couple photos were all done in the rain.
WHAT, IF ANYTHING, WOULD YOU DIFFERENTLY? The only thing that I would do differently is make sure you set a limit on guest amount and don’t let your families push you past that if you don’t want to. Our guest list got out of control because we didn’t set a limit early on. Both parents wanted to invite everyone they’ve ever known.
YOUR ADVICE FOR OTHER BRIDES-TO-BE: My advice would be to open to input from those closest around, but don’t let that dissuade you from your vision for your wedding. I had some solid ideas about the theme I wanted for my wedding but I relied heavily on my mother and sister to help my to pull it together. Don’t ever be afraid to ask for help or look for advice.
ADVICE FROM THE GROOM: My advice would be to show interest in the wedding. It’s a decision you have both made as a couple to get married and should be something you both work on together.
THREE WORDS TO DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING: Just In Time. We were one of the last few couples to have an in-person wedding before the shut down and closures began across the country. We were married on a Saturday and by Wednesday closures were already beginning to take effect in many of the major cities.
HONEYMOON DESTINATION: We were able to spend a week in Kauai, Hawaii.
DATE MARRIED: March 7, 2020
HOW LONG DID YOU TAKE TO PLAN THE WEDDING? 6 months
NUMBER OF GUESTS: 75 people
WEDDING COLORS/THEME: The wedding colors were sage and lilac/lavender. The theme was a simplistic blend version of modern and rustic.
WEDDING MENU AND DESSERT: We had a classic menu with roasted chicken, beef, grilled vegetables, mashed potatoes, and a dinner salad. Our dessert was a mixture of chocolate caramel and vanilla raspberry flavored cupcakes. The wedding cake was a two-tiered cake with one layer a golden buttermilk cake with strawberry mouse filling and the top layer was a rich fudge cake with caramel buttercream filling.
FIRST DANCE SONG: We actually didn’t have a first dance. We are horrible dancers, so we decided to avoid the embarrassment altogether.
