THE LOVE STORY
HOW WE MET: We met in the drumline at Sacramento State in 2012. We clicked immediately and started off as friends until we started dating in 2015.
WHAT ATTRACTED HER TO HIM: Julian matched my go-getter energy. We both have a strong work ethic for things that we care about and having someone that understands pursuing that was important to me. Plus he’s super cute!
WHAT ATTRACTED HIM TO HER: From the moment that I met her, Shelby and I have always had a special connection unlike anyone else. We have so many common interests with family, travel, food, and the marching arts that there is no one else like her. Plus she’s gorgeous.
YOUR ENGAGEMENT STORY: We took a Memorial Day weekend trip to Santa Cruz and Monterey to take in the sights and go on a hike. Red Flag Number 1: Julian took me to get a manicure. Why did I need my nails done for a hike? We went on said hike at the Lime Kilns. Red Flag Number 2: Julian sets up a tri-pod. He’s not a photographer and he has never set one up before. We do test pictures and when it is ready to take pictures, the timer flashes. In the middle of the hike he set up the tri-pod and said it was ready. Red Flag Number 3: It wasn’t flashing this time. He was recording for some reason. He walked up to me and went down on one knee and I said, “What are you doing?” I said yes. The rest is history.
THE WEDDING
FAVORITE PART OF THE WEDDING: Julian: Watching Shelby walk down the aisle and having everything hit me all at once was a happiness I haven’t experienced before.
Shelby: Having our friends and family together for our wedding was so special, especially after not seeing them for so long.
MOST UNEXPECTED PART OF YOUR WEDDING DAY: The turn out for our wedding surprised us a lot. We had to limit our guest count due to Covid-19 restrictions but we were so fortunate to be surrounded by our loved ones on our special day.
WHAT, IF ANYTHING, WOULD YOU DIFFERENTLY? Not a single thing.
YOUR ADVICE FOR OTHER BRIDES-TO-BE: Go to the bathroom before you get in your dress!
ADVICE FROM THE GROOM: Plan, plan, plan! We were very fortunate to be present during our wedding. I think this is because we had such an awesome group of family, friends, and vendors that worked with us to get everything planned. They really made the day so easy. Also, your wedding is about you two so don’t be afraid to make it your own!
THREE WORDS TO DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING: Best. Day. Ever.
HONEYMOON DESTINATION: On the night of the wedding, we spent the night at the Amber Room Inn in Midtown Sacramento. The day after, we took an 8-day road along the Pacific Coast Highway starting in Mendocino and going south to San Diego. On the way, we stopped for hikes, local eats, and local beer!
