THE LOVE STORY
HOW DID YOU MEET? We actually met a few years before we started dating. We worked at the same government campus, but within different units. Our relationship was merely a “hi and bye” type of thing. Within our own little worlds, we were in and out of relationships, so our worlds had yet to collide. They say “timing is everything” and man, did that prove to be true.
Sin (Bride): I was going through the hardest time of my life at the time. My father, who I simply adored and was like my best friend, was losing his fight with cancer. It’s kind of like something of a higher power knew I needed a loving soul to lean on, that’s when Matt and I started officially dating. I “slid into his DM’s” (as the kids would say) one morning. From that moment, though, I can’t remember ever not talking or spending time with Matt.
Our relationship didn’t start off as any “normal” relationship generally does. We spent the majority of what some call the “honeymoon phase” in hospital waiting rooms, up until Sin’s dad passed away. But in all honesty, we wouldn’t have traded those first few months for a normal beginning, because we truly learned each other’s values in that time. We know it’s what made us fall in love so quickly. Experiencing a loss like that brings out the best and worst in someone during certain situations. We kind of knew from the beginning it was a “for better or for worse” adventure from there on out. Also, the honeymoon phase is still going strong!
WHAT ATTRACTED HER TO HIM? Besides his seriously good looks, the moment I realized I was attracted to him was the way he communicated with me. It wasn’t like a “wait a few hours/days to text back” game. He communicated with me as much as I communicated with him. His conversations had so much depth, and I truly just LOVED talking to him and being around him. He was flirty, but in the kind of way that made me confident he was all about me. He made me feel so loved and comfortable, yet full of butterflies at the same time.
WHAT ATTRACTED HIM TO HER? When I first saw her I had that instant attraction, she is beautiful. As I slowly got to know her I quickly realized she is so much more than a pretty face. She has it all. I fell so hard. Just having those intimate conversations, I could talk to Sin about anything, I love the perspective and wisdom she has. Her beautiful mind and just seeing her interact with anyone, she has such a kindness about her. I truly fell for her when I saw that we share the same family values when I saw the side of her with her dad and meeting him in the hospital. It meant so much that she would make herself vulnerable to me so I that can meet her dad. I knew I was going to marry her.
YOUR PROPOSAL STORY: We had plans to go wine-tasting with some family in the Napa area. Matt ended up telling Jettus (Sin’s Brother-in-Law) about the plan to propose, so he was the only other person that knew. Jettus took us all to the Korbel winery, but when Matt realized there were too many random people around, he decided not to. Jettus decided to take us to the winery up the road. When we pulled up, Matt saw a sunflower garden and just knew it was the place to do it. Sin’s favorite flowers are sunflowers. It was meant to be!

WHAT, IF ANYTHING, WOULD YOU DIFFERENTLY? Sin: Add a couple more hours to the wedding time-frame… I wanted to dance with our friends and family more.
Matt: I wouldn’t change anything.
YOUR ADVICE FOR OTHER BRIDES-TO-BE: It’s you and your partner’s day. Cut out the things from the itinerary that honestly aren’t important to you. We get so caught up in pleasing others we tend to forget the day is to celebrate the two of you. Even when it comes to the initial wedding planning and guest invites…don’t feel obligated to do anything for others besides what’s best for you and your person.
Also, the little, little things… try your best not to stress. Or let someone else stress about it. You won’t even remember afterwards. It’s all going to look beautiful because all you’re going to see is the person waiting for you at the end of the aisle. I mean, that’s why you’re marrying them right? They make even the most chaotic situations look amazing!
ADVICE FROM THE GROOM: There is going to be A LOT going on and chaos all around the day. Find little moments to recognize and capture because it truly is once in a lifetime. Whether it’s your emotions getting high or someone else’s, keep in perspective the reason for all of it. Make sure you are on the same page as your wife because today is the launching point of the rest of your life, so enjoy the moments with each other and dance. Squash the little stuff and realize that it doesn’t really matter with family/friend dramas. It’s about you both. Also, just remember the photos last forever. Enjoy it! You can tell a lot about that particular moment just by looking at those photos. Good and bad.
Above all, make sure you get a bite of dessert because I didn’t get to. 🙂
THREE WORDS TO DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING: Exhilarating. Joyful. Intimate.
HONEYMOON DESTINATION: We took a 10-day cruise to Alaska and stopped at seven different ports. It was the most amazing time. We have a husky, so were so excited to go dog sledding and see all of the dogs!
