THE LOVE STORY
HOW WE MET: When they were 21, we met through mutual friends and Matt asked me to hangout at his house. After spending one Sunday afternoon together, we decided to be just friends and went our separate ways.
Over the next six years, Matt focused on raising his son, Bradley, attended undergrad school as well as graduate school, and began establishing his career. While I focused on undergraduate school, also began establishing my career, and bought a home.
In 2014, I saw a picture of Matt on social media, and thought, “He is still so cute!” and I reached out to Matt via text message, and sent him well wishes. Matt responded, and we quickly realized they were both in graduate school, working in Napa, and even lived on the same street! Matt asked me out on a lunch date at The Habit, and we conversed for two hours over Caesar salads. I returned home that evening, and told my former roommate that Matt was “the one.” Following our initial date, Matt and I hung out every night that week, and Matt even paid attention to me during the 2014 World Series, when the Giants won!
WHAT ATTRACTED HER TO HIM: Aside from Matt’s handsome good looks, I was attracted to Matt’s intellect, drive, and commitment. Matt approaches everything he does with dedication, something I admires greatly. Matt is family oriented and is an amazing father to his son Bradley. I views Bradley as a bonus to our relationship, and loves the fact that I gets to see how great of a father Matt is.
WHAT ATTRACTED HIM TO HER: I was attracted to how beautiful, caring, and successful Katie is. In my vows, I told Katie that she “doesn’t do things to check a box, rather you do things because you’re genuine and truly care.” I love Katie’s family, and knew when I met them that they were the in-laws I knew I would grow to love.
THE PROPOSAL: Approaching their third anniversary, Matt secretly planned a trip to my family’s beach house in Dillon Beach, Ca. This beach house meant a lot to me and my family, as we all grew up there vacationing. Matt knew I wanted a small, intimate proposal with just my parents present. Matt had previously asked my father for my hand in marriage, and had my father arranged the trip so I wouldn’t be suspecting of anything. My father planned a “just because trip”, which included just Matt, myself, and parents. On the second night, the four of us went to the cliffs of the beach at sunset. Matt got on one knee and asked me to marry him, with my parents watching close by.
THE WEDDING
PRE-WEDDING STORY: Being die-hard San Francisco Giants fans, I went to the Giants Spring Training for my bachelorette party, and was able to get several players to sign a baseball for Matt. I gave Matt the baseball, along with a picture of me getting the ball signed.
MEMORABLE CEREMONY MOMENT: Matt’s son Bradley, was a junior best man and stood directly next to Matt. It was very touching to be able to have our son included in our vows to each other, and to have him witness our commitment to each other.
MOST ROMANTIC MOMENT OF THE DAY: During sunset photos, down in the vineyard, the sun was setting, and we were alone. It was the best time of the day, to reflect on what just happened.
THE UNEXPECTED MOMENT OF THE DAY: Running out of beer early! We had to have someone go to the store for more. Tip: we would advise always erroring on the side of having too much than too little.
MEMORABLE RECEPTION MOMENT: It was the anniversary dance with all the married couples on the dance floor. It was a true moment to honor those who have made the commitment to spend the rest of their lives with each other.
MY FAVORITE PART OF THE DAY: The first dance. We had dreamt a lot about what this would look and feel like. The moment it happens, its as if no one else is around and it was just us two.
ADVICE FOR OTHER BRIDES: Give yourself plenty of time, but not too much time. One year is perfect (I had nearly two years). Book your vendors in advance, and once you commit, stay off Pinterest!
ADVICE FOR OTHER GROOMS: Support your fiancé in whatever she wants to do, haha.
OUR HONEYMOON: St. Kitts in the West Indies
