Seasonal Favorites
Are certain flowers an absolute must for your wedding day? Keep in mind that some are not available year-round. Here are 3 of the top flowers requested:
Peony
This Spring bloomer is a perpetual favorite. Even in season, it is on the more expensive side. Out of season? Better double that flower budget. Most florists recommend this beautiful bloom for just the bride. First to make her bouquet unique and to also save on cost. Months available: April-June
Ranunculus
Delicate Ranunculus. This stunning beauty comes in a variety of colors, from rich burgundys to variegated. The many petals just continue to layer over each other for a hearty bloom. These are generally a spring flower, but will also bloom again later Summer in certain climates. Expect your florist can purchase both Spring and Fall, some growers have year-round.
Dahlia
I adore Dahlias and would want some of these amazing flowers in my arrangements. From miniature to dinner plate size, their petals vary from tight light above, round balls, to frilly. Colors are pretty much anything you can imagine, solid to variegated. Expect your florist to recommend these if your wedding is in mid-summer or Fall when these are abundant.
Keep Them Fresh
I’ve learned while working for these pros that there is more to floral arranging than just cutting and sticking in a vase. Processing, clean cuts, special water treatments on certain varieties and the most important of all: a cool storage place. Your home refrigerator will be much too cold and if the flowers freeze, they are not going to recover. Like the flower wilted above, some even need pipe cleaners and wires to keep them from flopping.
Sometimes you think you’re doing yourself a favor by asking your florist to set up the flowers a day ahead, or want to arrange yourself to save on the budget – but nothing looks worse than wilted florals which are very visible and a huge part of your decorating budget. Trust your florist to create and provide the freshest florals possible and when they suggest to set-up for your event.
