Get Chocolate

September 15th, 2011 by Tami

Kudos to Regina Collins who recently purchased the The Tower of Chocolate from long time wedding professional Larry Abbott. Larry has been battling cancer, which has made it difficult to keep the business running, so he decided to sell. Noting that the business name, The Tower of Chocolate, was so synonymous with Larry Abbott, Regina felt it was best to rename it as she moves forward. Get Chocolate will be donating back 5% of the proceeds to help Larry and his family during this difficult time. Later on, that 5% will be donated to the cancer foundation the customer chooses. We commend Regina for her generosity! Please refer Get Chocolate to your clients to help a worthy cause. Visit the website or call (916) 759-0051 for more information.

We Love LUSH

September 7th, 2011 by Tami

LUSH Charity Pot Hand and Body LotionI’m so pleased to get to review another great LUSH product. This is the Charity Pot, Hand and Body Lotion. I get such dry skin in the Fall. Itchy, flaky…no fun. After showering this morning, I got with that itchy feeling, so grabbed this lotion. Instant satisfaction! Often after moisturizing I still itch, or need to keep applying layer upon layer, but with this wasn’t the case. Smooth, creamy and smells great too. The other great thing Lush is doing with the Charity Pot is exactly that, giving to charity. 100% of the proceeds go to support animal welfare, humanitarian concerns and environmental conservation all over the world. There are two LUSH stores in our area. Downtown Sacramento and Roseville $21.95

Wedding Flower Vases with Bling

August 3rd, 2011 by Tami

When setting up our display for the Dream Wedding Show at Cal Expo I felt our display needed a little pizzazz so went out on a quest to find something pretty.
Wedding flower vase with bling

I had a clear cylindrical flower vase and decided it needed some bling. I found stick-on crystals in clear and a fuschia pink along with some shimmery ribbon at Michael’s. I just used craft glue to secure the ribbon since I couldn’t find my glue gun (first choice) and just started sticking on the crystals in a random curvy type pattern and this is the end result. I found a black table runner at TJ Maxx for $12.99 and then threw down some scattered crystals (tube with three styles of scatter) and I had what I envisioned. I could have easily created three vases with the materials bought. Flowers: Trader Joe’s- $6.99. Cost for materials for vase bling: $18.44

Boho Chic Wedding Decorating Ideas

August 3rd, 2011 by Tami

Boho Chic is a style drawing on various bohemian and hippie influences. Popular in women’s fashions, it has transcended into weddings. Boho chic weddings this year are more about the budget-conscious bride who wants to do things herself and bring a hip, casual vibe to the event. Going through some of the images our photographers provide, I found three that could certainly be done easily and be considered boho-chic.
Boho chic flower decor
And adorable and easy way to spruce up any table. Simply clip off the flower tops and spread out for maximum effect. Choosing flowers with flat tops or large blooms works best, as you see here with the gerbera daises. Simple glass candle holders with votives to burn throughout the night will bring a warm glow throughout the evening. The candles could be scented or in assorted colors to compliment the flower colors. Add a table runner underneath in white or black to make the colors pop. Use for table centerpieces or favors display. Easy and economical.
Boho chic mossy flower girl basket
For the flower girl using a wicker basket with moss attached to the edges and a simple ribbon in the theme color filled with hydrangea petals. Expand upon this by lining with a splashy fabric, in a pattern and color to compliment your wedding theme. Perhaps a braided fabric edge around the top. Weave flowers into the top edge of the basket to go with your table display above. Fill with anything: candies, favors, potpourri. A really ambitious bride could make mini-versions as favors. Consider a larger version for a table centerpiece. Add a glass bowl and float flowers in it. Hang beads from the handle or wrap in multi-colored ribbons. Be creative and have fun.

Boho chic rock centerpiece for wedding table
A simple and pretty table centerpiece. Clear glass bowl, filled with polished rocks and water, then a mix of flowers and vine attached to the outside. The idea here is to toss a penny in and make a wish. Consider other fillers in place of the rocks like glass pebbles in iridescent or solid colors. Beads, sand or aquarium rock which come in multiple shades. Add a little food coloring to the water to match your theme colors. Alternate flower colors or stick with one type of flower. You could wrap the outside in ivy, grape or jasmine vines. Floating candles or flowers would work well also. For extra sparkle, find wired ribbon with an iridescent finish. Wrap the base in bead strings like Mardi Gras. Use your imagination to create something one-of-a kind and budget friendly.

Boho Chic Wedding Flower Centerpieces

The ever-popular Mason jar centerpiece. Buy a case of jars and add in any loose flower arrangement to it and you have instant boho-chic decor. Use flowers in season to keep your costs in check.

At left we see a variety of vases using a wine bottle, clear and purple glass. Purple an green work together very well. Wine bottles are easy enough to get and perhaps hit some thrift stores for an eclectic collection of other flower vases. They used Stock, a fragrant spring flower plus Baby’s Breath for a mix of color and texture. At right, clear tall vases with branches and a couple of Hydrangea blooms. You could use any combo of tall and short for this look. Getting married in the spring? Maybe flowering branches from a tree would be interesting to try.

Pyramid Alehouse – A Rehearsal Dinner

July 1st, 2011 by Tami

My son Kevin and fiancee Nicole decided upon Pyramid Alehouse for their rehearsal dinner. I didn’t have any objections since my husband and I are beer lovers. Having been there before to celebrate my daughter Rachael’s graduation, we knew we would not be disappointed. The wedding rehearsal was from 2-3 and I made our reservation for 4. We tried to kill time before we arrived, but did get there a little on the early side. No problem, our room was ready and waiting.

The menu covers just about everything from salads to ribs, so there was something for everyone. With pitchers of beer to share, and wine for the other folks, we all had something to suit us. The server was attentive and made sure no one had an empty glass. We tried out a few appetizers and the Crispy Pork Ribs were delicious! Fall off the bone tender. I had the Honey Cilantro Chicken which I really enjoyed. I love cilantro so the sauce really set this off.

Beer fans: consider the Pyramid Alehouse for your rehearsal dinner!
